We can assist you in learning Independent Living Skills (ILS) that will help you live well and stay safe in your own home. Someone on our staff can come to visit you in your home. We’ll coach you through things like cooking food, balancing your checkbook or managing daily hygiene.

My worker had a lot of knowledge of hard to house client with criminal background like myself. She worked tirelessly on finding me an apartment that was affordable, handicapped accessible, and would accept my background.

Independent Living Skills

Here at OCS Inc., we recognizes that individuals have a variety of independent living needs as well as differing abilities and barriers that may keep them from living as independently as possible. Together with the individual we serve, Waiver Case Manager, and other members of the team, a Community Service Support Plan (CSSP) is developed and goals are set based on the individual’s strengths and abilities. It is also based on individual’s accomplishment of tasks through direct and indirect observation, self-assessment, and interviews. The following categories are included on the assessment:

  • Personal Hygiene
  • Dressing and Clothing Care
  • Health Care
  • Cooking, Eating, Nutrition
  • Home Management and Home Safety
  • Financial Management
  • Personal Growth, Awareness, and Problem Solving
  • Community Access

Upon completion of the assessment, a thorough summary of the evaluation and recommendations are provided. Depending on what the individual’s need are or what they need assistance with, a case worker is assigned to help the individual to successfully achieve that objective.
